The Two Sided Quilt: Making Your Backing a Masterpiece
We often spend months perfectly piecing a quilt top, only to treat the back as an afterthought. But what if the back of your quilt was just as show stopping as the front?
I’ve always experimented with high contrast threads. While we sometimes want our thread to blend seamlessly into the quilt top, using a bold color on the back like an off white thread against a deep navy blue fabric can create a completely different look.
To get those crisp, clear lines, I’ve been quilting in manual mode and you'll notice that I don't quilt very fast. This gives me the perfect "rhythm" for stippling, allowing me to fill in backgrounds with consistent texture that looks incredible on both sides of the quilt.
You aren't just making a quilt, you're making a two sided piece of art. The front shows off your piecing skills, and the back highlights your quilting artistry.

Tired of Fighting Your Tension?
If you love the idea of using high contrast threads (like that off white on navy blue!) but you’re terrified that your tension will show "eyelashes" on the back of your quilt, I have the perfect solution for you.
I recently hosted a live Mastering Machine Tension Workshop, and you can now grab the full, recorded replay! In this deep dive, I break down the "Jackie Method" for finding that perfect handshake between your top and bobbin threads. It’s designed to be a reference tool you can come back to whenever your machine starts acting up.
